“It turns out the Oscar-nominated film The Brutalist used AI to edit actors’ performances in languages they don’t speak — and no one noticed until the editor spilled the secret.
Now, there’s uproar. Many industry insiders even called for the movie’s lead actors, Adrien Brody (who ended up winning Best Actor at the Oscars last night) and Felicity Jones, to be disqualified from award contention as a result.
The upshot is that people felt angry they’d been misled.
This is exactly why you need to be honest and upfront with your clients about any AI tools you use in your day-to-day practice. Like it or not, AI is here to stay. And many AI tools can help give your firm a competitive edge.
But don’t get caught out using AI without letting your clients know in advance. The public still has severely mixed opinions when it comes to AI, and you don’t want it to jeopardize the trust between you and your clients.
So by all means use AI in your business, but be sure to let your clients know that it supports your expertise, rather than substituting it.
Trust is everything in law. Protect it.”
