“One of the biggest shifts attorneys can make in their business development mindset? Make it a daily habit.
We’ve seen lawyers block off 30-minutes every Friday to focus on business development and marketing. It’s a good start — but the most consistent growth comes from small, daily actions.
Think of it the same way you’d think of client work: it’s part of your job, not something you “get around to.”
A good starting point is blocking 15-minutes at the start of each day to check in on BD tasks that are top priority… Who do you need to follow up with? What’s one thing you can do today to stay top-of-mind?
Then, take five minutes at the end of the day to reflect and create a framework for tomorrow’s actions… What opportunities came up today? Who did you meet or email that might warrant a follow-up?
Small, routine habits like this can keep the momentum going. You just have to commit.
The attorneys who win aren’t necessarily spending hours networking every week. They’re just intentional about the actions they take. They’ve built a rhythm that keeps business development front and center — without burning out.
If you’re coaching attorneys or trying to boost rainmaking at your firm, encourage a daily cadence. Because the best results don’t come from big pushes — they come from small, smart habits done consistently.”
