Growing Opportunities For Injury Attorneys To Attract Hispanics Who Are Severely Hurt On The Job From Falls, Slips, and Trips

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the proportion of Hispanics who are severely injured on the job as a result of falls, slips, or trips has been steadily increasing for years, and was already greater than the proportion of other ethnic groups going as far back as the early 2000s. If the 20+ year trend continues, there should be increased demand for injury law among Hispanic construction workers due to falls.

The most striking aspect of this data is that more Hispanics are severely injured on the job by falls, slips, and trips than any other accident type, including equipment and vehicle accidents. Perhaps not coincidentally, severe injuries due to falls, slips, and trips occur more frequently in the construction industry than in other industries, and Hispanics make up a full 1/3 of construction workers in the U.S.

As we’ve noted on more than one occasion, although Hispanics make up 20% of the total U.S. population, less than 6% of attorneys are Hispanic. The numbers are even more skewed when it comes to the construction industry: While the BLS reports that a full 1/3 of construction workers in the U.S. are Hispanic, the Hispanic National Bar Association notes that Hispanics are as underrepresented in personal injury law as they are in other types of law.

What’s more, Mordor Intelligence’s data suggests that Hispanics’ demand for personal injury law will continue to grow: Predicting that the U.S. construction industry will grow at a compounded annual rate of nearly 5% in the coming years, the industry is likely to employ more Hispanic workers…this naturally suggests that there will be increased demand for injury law among Hispanic construction workers due to falls.

As a side note, attorneys can use AI to learn about trends in demand for legal services and make determinations about what kind of law to focus on based on that information. (We discussed this topic in a previous blog. It’s worth mentioning that the BLS uses AI in a similar manner to compile data such as the proportion of Hispanics who are severely injured on the job as a result of falls, slips, or trips.
